About Me
As a young person, the shifting employment landscape poses many challenges.
I chose to complete my Master of Education in Education and Digital Technologies at UOIT with this reality in mind. I wanted to gain employable skills and expand my knowledge base to make my abilities more marketable, and build on my educational background and interests. I consider myself a lifelong learner always seeking new challenges. The M.Ed has satisfied this desire by allowing me to become a better teacher and learner, and to feel more at home in a digital world.
With a strong background in language and communication, and a passion for teaching, teacher's college was a natural choice for me after completing my undergraduate degree in English. Teaching allows me to combine my creativity with my training and make a career out of it! After graduation I had no trouble getting an occasional (supply) teaching position and long term occasional contracts that enabled me to put theory into practice. That said, a permanent position seemed impossible.
With changes in hiring practice and increase in surplus and redundancy in my school boards, jobs security is limited. I began to pursue a post graduate Human Resource Management (HRM) certificate through Ontario Learn to add another dimension to my resume when I became intrigued with online learning. After completing more than half of the HRM program, and some Additional Qualification (AQ) courses (all online), I decided my energy would be best spent pursing higher education that might be applicable both in, and outside the classroom. When I found this program I knew it was right for me.
My human resources studies and teaching experience have colored my time in the M.Ed program. I believe I have come to a new understanding of how people learn and what is possible in the future of education. I look forward to taking on new challenges along my ever changing career path that will allow me to apply my learning, and continue to innovate my practice. New and exciting things are on the horizon and I cannot wait to rise to meet them!
